On Overriding H.264/AVC B−Slice Predicted Residue Coding

چکیده
The use of motion compensation (both forward and bidirectional) allied with transform−quantisation based coding of the residual predicted error has been ubiquitous in video coding standards. The most recent standard, H.264/AVC, maintains this paradigm, introducing even more efficient tools to determine and compress predicted residue information. In this paper we investigate the effects of eliminating the encoding of bidirectional prediction residue in H.264/AVC. Extensive experimental tests show gains of up to 50% of the bit rate for the same PSNR value, for B slices. An analysis of this procedure also reveals an interesting relation between H.264/AVC motion estimation and dictionary−based methods, namely vector quantisation and Lempel−Ziv encoders.

In this paper, an H.264/AVC-based multiple description video coding scheme is proposed. It utilizes the advanced video coding tools and features provided in H.264/ AVC to introduce redundancy into descriptions. Two independently decodable descriptions are generated, each consisting of two slice groups. One of them, called main slice group (MSG), is encoded normally as main information. The othe...
متن کاملGeneralized B pictures and the draft H.264/AVC video-compression standard
This paper reviews recent advances in using B pictures in the context of the draft H.264/AVC video compression standard. We focus on reference picture selection and linearly combined motion-compensated prediction signals. We show that bi-directional prediction exploits partially the efficiency of combined prediction signals whereas multihypothesis prediction allows a more general form of B pict...

This paper presents the macroblock/slice level pipeline structure for an H.264/AVC [email protected] codec. In H.264/AVC, level 4.2 (L4.2) in high profile (HP) describes the encoding/decoding capability of 1920x1088@64p sequence/ bitstream of up to 62.5 Mbps. To meet this tremendous specification, the novel hardwired architecture of the H.264/AVC codec is also presented. It supports both encoding and dec...

The H.264/AVC standard introduces enhanced error robustness capabilities enabling resilient and reliable transmission of compressed video signals over wireless lossy packet networks. Those robustness capabilities are achieved by integrating some new error resilience tools that are essential for a proper delivery of real-time video services. Those tools include the Intra Refreshing (IR), Arbitra...
متن کاملSlice groups for post-compression region of interest encryption in H.264/AVC and its scalable extension
Encrypting regions of interest in H.264/AVC and SVC bit streams after compression is a challenging task due to drift. In this paper, we assess whether the use of slice groups makes this task easier and what its expense in terms of bit rate overhead is. We introduce the concept of all-grey base layers for SVC which simplify the encryption of regions of interest in surveillance camera application...
